RECORD PRODUCER
I’m a songwriter, performer, and record producer with decades of experience. Over the years, I’ve produced nine of my own album projects, countless demos and home recordings, as well as albums with Tin Compass and The Deck Boys. Along the way, I’ve developed a pretty good sense of what makes a song work, how to shape an arrangement, and how to help musicians get the best out of a performance.
To me, production has very little to do with how much technology you have. Anyone can book a studio or put a bunch of expensive gear in a bedroom. The real work is the production: understanding the song, shaping the arrangement, choosing instrumentation, developing vocal parts and harmonies, preparing the artist, and making the creative decisions that turn a song into a great recording.
I work with songwriters and bands who have songs they believe in but may not have a lot of experience making records. We start with pre-production, working through the songs, arrangements, instrumentation, vocals, and performances before entering the studio. Then I work alongside the artist and engineer during tracking and overdubs, helping guide performances, select takes, and make the creative decisions that serve the song.
Currently I am producing an EP for the Portland duo 4Blue at Fremont Recording. I am now looking for other artists that are a good fit.
If you have songs you believe in and want experienced creative guidance turning them into professionally produced recordings, let’s talk.
